What is Farleigh & Friends?

Every week I get hundreds of messages, sometimes more than a thousand. Some are pitches, but most are questions about a business, a career, or something I wrote in my newsletter.

I can't answer them all one by one, and I've tried. But the more I read, the more it felt like a conversation we could all have together, rather than a queue of replies from me.

Every Wednesday I'll go live, throw a few ideas into the mix and see what comes back. Some will be serious, some a bit wacky. From there, the room decides.

Some weeks we'll drift towards business,
other weeks we'll end up somewhere none of
us expected, and that's half the fun.

What happens each week

We go live every Wednesday at 6pm UK time, for an hour.

  1. A warm start

I open with a few things I've been thinking about to spark some discussion among the chat. You jump in at any time to add a thought, pushback, or ask a question.

  2. Over to you

From there, we follow the room. One week it's a business problem or maybe it's philosophy, economics, politics or even something a bit quirky. We take it on together.

  3. Your questions

My friend will keep his eyes on the chat, throwing your questions at me and nudging me in whichever direction looks most interesting. He'll be keeping me on my toes!

A bit about me

I grew up in foster care in Sydney, was labelled “backward” at school, and found out I was good at maths. I studied economics at night and ended up trading for Bankers Trust and then a family office, where it went well enough that I retired at 34.

Since then I've founded and funded more than 100 start-ups. Some flew, including Net-A-Porter, Home House and Reggae Reggae Sauce. Plenty didn't, and I've written about those too, because that's where I learned the most.

You might know me from Dragons' Den. I was also Chancellor of London South Bank University for seven years, and I've written two business books, Taming the Lion and Humble Stumbles. I've also written a teenage business thriller, Ricky Means Business.

Questions

When is it?

Every Wednesday at 6pm UK time, for an hour.

Our first stream is Wednesday 21 October.

What if I can't make it live?

The streams are live only, because the conversation is the point. You get four a month, so missing one isn't the end of the world.

Can I ask about my own business?

Please do. That's what it's for. Post your question in the chat during the stream.

Do I need to download anything?

No. You can watch in your browser or in the Circle app.

How do I cancel?

From your account settings, at any time. You keep access until the end of the month you've paid for.

Is this financial advice?

No. I share my experience and my opinions, and I've been wrong plenty of times. Nothing in the stream is regulated financial advice, so check anything important with a qualified adviser.
